Before kick-off in the match between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, Harry Kane experienced a truly special moment.

The English striker walked onto the pitch at the Allianz Arena carrying the 2026 Ballon d’Or, greeted by applause from players from both teams and a standing ovation from the fans in the stands.

A large banner celebrating the prestigious award had also been placed in the centre of the pitch. The evening of Bayern Munich vs Borussia Dortmund therefore began with a celebration of Harry Kane and his achievement in winning the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

The Bavarian club had already paid tribute to their striker on Wednesday, before their DFB-Pokal match against Magdeburg, organising a guard of honour from his teammates.

This time, however, the occasion was even more special, thanks to the presence of the most prestigious individual trophy in world football.

Fans in Munich had been waiting many years for an achievement of this kind. The last Bayern Munich player to win the Ballon d’Or was Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 1981, exactly 45 years ago. Before him, the award had also been won by Gerd Müller in 1970 and Franz Beckenbauer in 1972 and 1976.

With this achievement, Kane joins a very select group of great players who have made history at the club, bringing the prestigious trophy back to Munich after almost half a century.

The large celebratory banner placed in the centre of the pitch made the ceremony even more special. Before the match began, the striker addressed the fans with a message: “I’m proud to be a Bayern player. I’m proud to have brought this trophy to Munich. Thank you.”

Kane also wanted to share this moment with his family. Standing alongside him on the pitch at the Allianz Arena were his wife Katie and their four children, who joined him for the Ballon d’Or presentation in front of the fans.

Another detail caught everyone’s attention: the soles of the boots Kane wore for the German derby were also gold, a detail that reflected the award he had just won.

Bayern Munich fans also wanted to pay special tribute to their striker, displaying a banner with the following message: “Not a showman, but a footballer as they should be. Congratulations, Harry!”.
