Although November 19 is still some way off, GTA VI has already generated around $630 million in pre-orders. According to estimates from Sensor Tower, 6.45 million copies of Rockstarโ€™s upcoming game had already been pre-ordered by October 20.

These figures have not been officially confirmed by the company, but they give an idea of just how much anticipation there is for the game.

There is also a clear preference for PlayStation. Around three out of every four GTA VI pre-orders are for the PS5 version, with 4.8 million copies, compared to 1.66 million for Xbox Series consoles.

These figures are already well above expectations, while an earlier estimate from Piper Sandler suggested that more than 45 million copies could be sold on launch day alone.

GTA V is the obvious point of comparison. Released in 2013, it remains one of the most important entries in the series. Its sequel has been in development for more than ten years and will take players to Leonida, a fictional state inspired by Florida.

Rockstar is aiming to create a more interactive and immersive world, but expectations are so high that the new game will have to live up to the legacy of one of the most influential video games of recent years.

Anyone looking to pre-order GTA VI will also need to decide which edition to buy. In the United States, the standard edition costs $79.99, while the Ultimate Edition is priced at $99.99. There is also a collectorโ€™s edition costing $399.99, which includes items inspired by the game.

The release of GTA VI is already affecting the plans of other developers, with some reportedly moving their launch dates to avoid competing directly with Rockstar.

Some people have even arranged to take time off work to play during launch week. In the United States, there have also been reports of military personnel being offered time off to try the game in exchange for renewing their enlistment contracts.

Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to be released on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with the PC Steam version expected to follow at a later date.
